GARDEZ (Pajhwok): A district police chief was killed in a Taliban attack in southeastern Paktia province on Monday, an official said.
Police spokesman Sardar Wali Tabasum told Pajhwok Afghan News the incident took place close to the NDS Department in Gardez.
He said the first district police chief was killed and two other policemen were wounded in the armed assault. The attackers managed to flee the area.
He said the official came under attack while patrolling the Choni highway off the provincial capital.
According to eyewitnesses, the militants also took away weapons and a pick-up vehicle but security officials rejected the claim.
