TALOQAN (Pajhwok): Taliban militants have captured am aspirant female candidate along with her brother in Darqud district of northeastern Takhar province, an official said on Wednesday.
Deputy police chief Col. Nizam-u-Din Ghori told Pajhwok Afghan News Fazila a possible candidate in the upcoming elections was captured by Taliban insurgents in Ilqetaq locality of the district on Tuesday.
He did not provide further details about the incident, but said an investigation was underway.
Hassam, a resident of the area, said the female candidate was on her way to Taloqan, the provincial capital, along with her brother when Taliban arrested her.
He said the Taliban had recovered some documents from her, which clearly testified to her candidature.
Efforts by tribal elders are underway to secure the release the possible candidate, he concluded.
The Taliban have not yet commented about the abduction but they have earlier warned people against taking part in the upcoming polls.
