Goal from Antonie Griezmann, Paul Pogba and Kylian Mbappe saw the French — pre-tournament favorites — capping off a magnificent run in the group stage the knockout stages.
They scored richly deserved wins over Australia, Peru, Argentina, Uruguay and Belgium. The French clinched their second WC title and the first since they hosted the 1998 tournament.
Les Bleus manager Didier Deschamps was the captain in 1998 when his team shocked Brazil in Paris and on Sunday he became the third to ever the WC as a player and coach.
Presidents of Croatia, France and Russia were among the thousands of fans who watched the final. Croatia’s Luka Modric was declared the player of the match.
