MAIDAN SHAHR (Pajhwok): At least seven people were killed and 37 others wounded after a suicide attacker rammed his explosives-laden vehicle into security base in central Maidan Wardak province on Saturday morning, officials said.

Provincial Public Health director Mohammad Salim Asgharkhel confirmed receiving seven bodies, including one policeman, and 30 injured with seven wounded policemen shifted to police headquarters.

Police spokesman Hekmat Durrani told Pajhwok Afghan News the bombing took place through Saracha type vehicle in Maidan Shahr City at around 7:30am.

Without going into details, he said two policemen, three civilians were killed and 12 others, including police personnel, wounded. The casualties’ number might be higher, Durrani believed.

Naseer Ahmad, a resident of the area, said the explosion was powerful and all the nearby houses’ windowpanes were shattered. However, he had no information about casualties but added the figures might be higher.

The Kabul-Kandahar highway had also been closed as a result of the bombing but reopened for traffic after few hours.

Taliban claimed credit for the bomb attack. Zabihullah Mujahid, the group’s spokesman, claimed dozens of security forces were killed and wounded in the attack.
