More than 10 policemen suffered casualties in Balkh attack

MAZAR-I-SHARIF (Pajhwok): More than a dozen policemen have been suffered casualties in Chamtal district of northern Balkh province, source said on Sunday.

Aminullah, a resident of the area, told Pajhwok Afghan News that the militants stormed and captured a security check-post in Markazi Chamtal village at 10pm on Saturday night.

Policemen suffered casualties in the overnight attack, he said, adding the militants took away some weapons and ammunition and left the post at 7am in the morning.

Police chief Maj. Gen Syed Ikram Samee confirmed the check-post fallen into the hands of Taliban but rejected the policemen’s casualties.

He said only two policemen injured and clearing operation under way in the area. But another source, wishing anonymity, said more than 10 policemen suffered casualties in the firefight.

Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid said 10 police personnel were killed and three others wounded in the overnight attack.
