KABUL instead of a temporary arrangement, adding no power in future would push the Afghans into a foreign war in the name of religion.
In a video message on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the former Soviet forces’ withdrawal from Afghanistan, President Ghani congratulated the Afghans and families of the martyrs on observing the day and said the Afghans were proud of their legitimate resistance.
He said on international level from the United Nations to the Organization of Islamic Countries and others had denounced the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan.
Ghani said this day 30 years ago Afghanistan achieved freedom from a foreign aggression and the power behind the Afghans’ victory was their faith and unity.
The president said the Afghan jihad was part of Afghanistan’s history to learn from. He said the Afghans wanted the withdrawal of Soviet forces to be independent and live in peace and they did not want to start one war after another.
He said the Soviet forces’ exit was the result of the nation’s resistance, but the concerns of Afghans were not responded wisely after the withdrawal and thus the country plunged into new crisis and conflicts.
The president said Afghanistan was now currently facing the same fate-deciding moment. “Our people want peace but unbreakable peace because a short term peace ignores the majority, the youth and women.”
