The soldiers, who died on Friday in northern Kunduz Province of wounds sustained in combat, were identified as Spc. Joseph Collette and Sgt. 1st Class Will Lindsay.
According to CNN, Collette was assigned to the 242nd Ordnance Battalion, 71st Explosive Ordnance Group in Fort Carson, Colorado.
Lindsay was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 10th Special Forces Group (Airborne) out of Fort Carson. They were killed during a partnered US-Afghan military operation.
Army spokesman Lt. Col. Loren Bymer was quoted as saying Lindsay joined the US Army in 2004 and was awarded the Bronze Star Medal and the Purple Heart Medal.
The soldiers' deaths bring the total number of US causalities in Afghanistan this year to four. There are still 14,000 US soldiers in the country.
