PESHAWAR (Pajhwok): At least 46 Afghan citizens have been detained for living illegally in the capital of Pakistan’s northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.
Police have launched a new campaign to nab and deport the illegal Afghans, The News reported on Wednesday. The detainees did not have passports or proof of registration cards.
Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Qazi Jamilur Rehman told the newspaper: “These Afghan nationals were arrested after reports of their involvement in criminal activities.”
A large number of Afghan nationals are said to be living in the country without residency documents. Scores of families have reportedly got Pakistani identity cards.
The 46 Afghans would be produced before the court and deported to their country. The arrests were made in Cantonment Circle, interior city and Saddar Circle.
Cases have been filed against the arrested Afghans under the Foreigners Act.
Thousands of well-off Afghan families live in Hayatabad, Faqirabad, Paharipura, Tehkal, University Town, Kohat Road and other areas.
