TIRINKOT(Pajhwok): After keeping closed for several days, Taliban militants have reopened the Kandahar-Uruzgan highway in the Shah Walikot district of southern Kandahar province, residents said on Thursday.
The Taliban had closed the highway in Bakhtu area of the district and reopened it on Thursday morning on the orders of their shadow governor for Kandahar at the request of local people, said small passenger vehicles representative Abdul Rahim Ustad.
The highway closure had left stranded hundreds of passengers in Kandahar City and Tirinkot where the prices of essential items soared as a result.
Earlier people said the Taliban closed the Kandahar-Uruzgan highway in retaliation to the closure of Khakrez highway by security forces.
