Afghans urged to widely partake in I-Day events

MAZAR-I-SHARIF (Pajhwok): Religious scholars in northern Balkh province on Sunday urged the people to widely participate in programs marking the country’s 100th Independent Day.

The call was made by a number of ulema at a gathering celebrating the100th Independent Day in Mazar-i-Sharif City, the provincial capital.

Participants of the gathering also urged the Afghan government and political figures to act responsibly with regard to the peace process and elections.

Ghulamuddin Kalantari, a senior advisor at the Ministry of Hajj recitations, and highlighting the importance of Islam in all mosques.

He said under the leadership of King Amanullah Khan, the Afghans won independence from the British 100 years back.

Sayed Shah Zaman Husssini, a religious scholar, retaking independence from the British was an honour but the Afghans did not enjoy their independence during the last four decades.

Fazal Hadid, the provincial council chairman, also urged people to widely participate in celebrations of the 100th Independence Day.

He urged the government and all political parties to responsibly act with regard to the peace and elections processes in the country.

A number of other participants and ulema urged people to extensively participate in the in the Independence Day celebrations.
