2 civilians, 8 rebels killed in Logar offensives

PUL-I-ALAM (Pajhwok): Two civilians including a doctor and eight Taliban militants have been killed in airstrikes and clashes in central Logar province, officials said Sunday.

An official who wished to go unnamed, told Pajhwok Afghan News that foreign forces bombarded two houses in Babos area of Pul-i-Alam, the provincial capital on Saturday night.

“The first airstrike targeted the house of Mulavi Inamullah that killed two persons, another airstrike targeted the house of Mulavi Nabiullah that killed one person,” the source said.

He said Mulavi Inamullah was supporting the Taliban and his sons were currently fighting against the Afghan forces.

Abdul Ghafar, a resident of the area, said, “Three people were killed when airstrikes hit the houses of Mulavi Inamullah and Mulavi Nabi last night, the houses were destroyed,”

Didar Lawang, Logar governor’s spokesman confirmed the airstrikes and said those targeted were Taliban.

He did not provide further details on the regard.

Former President Hamid Karzai in a statement said that US forces targeted residential buildings in Logar.

He said that a number of people including women and children were killed in the attacks.

Karzai stressed in the statement that all military operations should be stopped in the country and intra-Afghan peace talks should begin as soon as possible.

Shakil Ahmad Tasal, spokesman of 4th ground brigade in Logar said that Afghan forces and the Taliban clashed in Doshanbi area of Pul-i-Alam last night.

He said that six Taliban militants and two civilians including a doctor were killed during the battle.
