KABUL (Pajhwok): The Independent Directorate of Local Governance (IDLG) has rejected allegation of an election watchdog that some governors supported a specific presidential candidate during campaign.
On Thursday, the Transparent Election Foundation of Afghanistan (TEFA) expressed concern over the interference of some governors and police chiefs during election to benefit a particular team.
IDLG in a statement on Friday rejected TEFA’s allegation and added they regularly informed its employees in the centre and provinces to refrain from activities which could question the fairness and transparency during polls.
The statement also added that IDLG has stopped fresh appointment in the centre and provinces till the conduct of election in an attempt to ensure elections transparency.
IDLG stressed that all governors, deputies, district chiefs and mayors had been informed to remain neutral and refrain from activities that could hamper the transparency of polls.
