KABUL Bank Head Wahidullah Nawsher on Tuesday said that ban of Pakistani rupee has helped increase in the value of afghani and strengthened the economy.
Attaullah Khogyani, spokesperson for the Nangarhar Governor Office, said that Nawsher conferred an appreciation certificate on Nangarhar Governor for taking steps to promote the use of local currency.
Khogyani said a ceremony organised for this purpose was attended by heads of the private banks, businessperson, and municipality officials.
Nawsher hailed the efforts of Nangarhar Governor Shah Mahmood Miakhel and added that in a short span of time the governor was able to spread awareness among people and take steps for the promotion of local currency and shunning the use of foreign banknotes.
“We have enough small banknotes and 80 million more would be printed soon a large number of which will be given to Nangarhar,” he said.
He said the purpose of his trip to Nangarhar was to appreciate steps taken by Governor Miakhel, learn about the challenges and take necessary steps for resolving the problems and challenges.
Miakhel said that Afghani is a national identity and value of economy and pledged to accomplish the process of promoting the use of afghani currency successfully.
He said the people of Nangarhar are patriotic and welcomed the campaign to promote local currency instead of foreign banknotes.
He said money exchangers and shopkeepers who keep the small banknotes and exchange them against high price are creating problems in the process and termed the practice a national treason. He warned to punish individuals involved in this practice.
