Police commander shot dead by ANA soldiers

HERAT CITY (Pajhwok): A special police unit commander has been shot dead mistakenly by Afghan National Army (ANA) soldiers in western Herat province, an official said on Saturday.

Jilani Farhad, the governor’s spokesman, told Pajhwok Afghan News the incident took place in the Nawabad area of Herat City, the provincial capital, on Friday evening.

He said Special Forces’ Unit Commander, Ahmad Shah Jalali was shot dead as he ignored the ANA personnel’s signal to stop  at a check-point in the area.

Jilani added the governor had ordered detective organs to conduct a thorough investigation into the incident.

Police chief Aminullah Amarkhel called the killing of Jalali a massive loss for police. The 207th Zafar Military Corps has so far said nothing in this regard.

Local authorities hailed Jalali as a brave officer, who played a crucial role in operations against militants.
