150 trucks to cross daily into Afghanistan via Torkham

PESHAWAR (Pajhwok): Top administrative and security officials in Torkham have decided to allow more trucks with trade items to enter Afghanistan on a daily basis.

A high-level meeting decided that instead of 100 vehicles, 150 trucks carrying different goods would be permitted to cross daily into the landlocked country.

Apparently, the decision came in response to repeated complaints from transporters and customs clearing agents against the snail-paced clearance of trade goods bound for Afghanistan.

The coordination meeting between security and administrative officials also underlined the need for better protective measures against Covid-19 at the border crossing.

Chaired by Sector Commander Brig Shaukat Rana, the meeting was attended by Deputy Commissioner Mehmud Aslam Wazir, Khyber Rifles Commandant Col Bilal, District Police Officer Mohammad Iqbal, custom officials of customs and transporter representatives.

According to Dawn, the participants agreed to allow the Pakistanis stranded in Afghanistan to come back and let the Afghans on this side of the Durand Line leave for their country on every Saturday.
