PUL-I-ALAM (Pajhwok): At least seven security guards of Mes Aynak copper mine have been killed and five others wounded in a Taliban attack in central Logar province, an official said Sunday.
Police chief Brig. Gen. Raham Khuda Mulkhis told Pajhwok Afghan News that the militants stormed a Mes Aynak security check-post in Mohammad Agha district late on Saturday night.
He said seven security guards of the mine were killed and another five wounded in the nighttime attack.
Meanwhile, Didar Lawang, the governor’s spokesman, also confirmed the incident to Pajhwok, saying the Taliban militants wanted to prevent development of Mes Aynak mine by carrying out such attacks.
It’s worth mentioning that at least 28 security forces were killed and dozens others wounded in three insurgent attacks in the ongoing month.
