KANDAHAR (Pajhwok): Fifteen policemen were killed during a gun-battle with Taliban insurgents near the capital of southern Zabul province on Friday.
Zabul police spokesman Lal Mohammad Ameri confirmed the clash in Hazar Tak area of Qalat, the provincial capital, but said details would be shared later with the media.
But a reliable security source told Pajhwok that the Taliban ambushed police in Hazar Tak area, sparking a fierce gun-battle.
He said 15 policemen were killed and their two Humvee vehicles and one pick up were destroyed.
He said the Taliban also suffered casualties, but exact figures were not available.
Taliban spokesman Qari Yusuf Ahmad said the rebels attacked security forces on their way to conduct operations in the province.
He said three tanks of the security forces were destroyed in the assault, killing and wounding many government forces.
