Taliban gun down former senator in Logar

PUL-I-ALAM (Pajhwok): Taliban have killed former senator Abdul Wali Ahmadzai in central Logar province, say local officials.

Deedar Lawang, the governor’s spokesman, told Pajhwok Afghan News that ex-member of the Meshrano Jirga came under attack on his way back from the provincial capital.

Ahmadzai had gone to Pul-i-Alam to attend the funeral ceremony for his sister to Monday. “Ahmadzai was shot dead by Taliban Choni area,” the official said.

Hasibullah Stanikzai, the provincial council chairman, confirmed the killing of the ex-senator, saying he was currently serving in the Independent Directorate of Local Governance (IDLG).

Akbar, a resident of Choni area, said Ahmadzai had been killed by Taliban mysteriously on Monday night.

The Taliban have not yet commented on the then lawmaker’s murder.
