26 Taliban killed in Ghazni, Paktika violence

GHAZNI CITY/SHARANA (Pajhwok): More than two dozen Taliban fighters have been killed and several others wounded during separate incidents of violence in southern Ghazni and southeastern Paktika provinces.

A statement from the Ghazni intelligence office received by Pajhwok Afghan News said Afghan security forces conducted an airstrike against militants in Ahangarano area of Jaghtu district late Saturday night.

The statement said 18 Taliban gunmen were killed and dozens of others wounded in the nighttime airstrike.

It claimed two key Taliban commanders Muallah Zakir and Mullah Ismail were among the dead.

Ghazni police spokesman Ahmad Khan Serat also confirmed the causalities to Pajhwok.

In Paktika, Taliban militants stormed security check-posts in Zerok district on Saturday night, said the 203rd Thunder Military Corps.

Eimal Khan, the corps’ spokesman, told Pajhwok eight attackers were killed and six others wounded in the overnight clash. Two security personnel were also wounded in the attack.

The Taliban have not yet commented about the airstrike in Ghazni and the clash in Paktika.
