LASHKARGAH (Pajhwok): Two security personnel were killed and four others wounded in a suicide attack on their base in southern Helmand province on Wednesday.
In a statement, the governor’s house said the the suicide bomb attack took place on the Kandahar-Helmand highway in Nahr-i-Saraj district on Tuesday night at 9:30pm.
The Taliban wanted to take control of the Kandahar-Helmand highway in the district but the security forces effectively frustrated their attempt, the statement added.
The militants had been trying to plant landmines on the highway and shut it for traffic, the statement alleged
The insurgents carried out a suicide attack on the base on the highway, injuring six security personnel. Two of them later succumbed to their wounds.
The governor’s house said three militants were also killed and eight others wounded in the ensuing firefight.
Taliban have so far said nothing about the attack.
