KABUL members on Monday criticized government National Food Package (NFP) and asked the lawmakers to resist the implementation of this project.
Earlier, President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani inaugurated the NFP and said that food items worth $244 million would be distributed to vulnerable families.
Soon after the announcement of the package, Wolesi Jirga rejected the scheme but the government insisted over the implementation of the food package.
Syed Ahmad Selab, a lawmaker from Kandahar province, said the government was not fully aware of poor people nationwide and if the project implemented the amount allocated for the package would be wasted.
Zalmai Noori, a lawmaker from Panjshir province, said the scheme was rejected by the lower house and should not be implemented.
He alleged millions of dollars provided for combating coronavirus had been embezzled and if the NFP scheme implemented this time the money of Baitul Mal would be embezzled.
He demanded the implementation of the package should be stopped as there was no transparency in the scheme.
Speaker Mir Rahman Rahmani regretted the participation of some lawmakers in the inaugural ceremony of NFP and added the physical presence of some lawmakers in the event offered legitimacy to the scheme.
He asked the government to respect Wolesi Jirga decision and refrain from the implementation of the project.
