KABUL speaker and some members on Wednesday criticized the delay in introducing ministers-designate for a trust vote and warned if the same situation continued, the lower house would take a decision on its own.

All ministries are currently being run by acting ministers six months after the new government was elected and ministers-designates are yet to be referred to the Wolesi Jirga for a trust vote.

Fakor Behishti, a lawmaker from Bamyan province, said: “The government should introduce new ministers to the lower house for trust vote. If a minister fails to get trust vote, another face should be introduced.”

He termed services of acting officials against the law and said: “The government spent all five years appointing acting officials, therefore the lower house should take its decision in this regard.”

Lawmaker Ameer khan Yar said the government besides acting ministers should also introduce members of the supreme court and head of Red Crescent Society for trust vote to the house.

He said the period of Supreme Court judges had ended and new judges should be introduced to the lower house for a trust vote.

Hameedullah Haneef, a lawmaker from Herat province, criticized the delay in introducing ministers-designate and said the president was reluctant to introduce his nominees.

He warned if the government ignored the house demand, the lawmakers would take a stand and close down the house.

Speaker Mir Rahman Rahmani also acknowledged that President Ghani was afraid of introducing ministers-designate to the Wolesi Jirga and therefore the process was being delayed.

“I don’t know why the government is afraid of having a legal and legitimate Cabinet and it does not want the Cabinet should be answerable to the people.”

Rahmani asked lawmakers to share their views with heads of commissions so that a decision was made.
