FARAH CITY (Pajhwok): Twenty Afghan National Army (ANA) soldiers have been killed and 10 others taken hostage by the Taliban in western Farah province, local officials say.
The insurgent attack happened in the Kansak area of Bala Balok district near the Herat-Kandahar highway Saturday night, a public representative said.
Provincial council member Gul Ahmad Faqiri said 20 Afghan soldiers were killed as the Taliban stormed a military post in the area. Another 10 soldiers were taken hostage.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Defence accused the Taliban of staging attacks in Nangarhar, Kunar, Laghman, Nuristan, Kapisa, Maidan Wardak, Ghazni, Logar, Paktia, Paktika, Khost, Kandahar, Zabul, Herat, Farah, Badghis, Ghor, Faryab, Sar-e-Pul, Balkh, Helmand, Kunduz, Badakhshan, Baghlan and other provinces.
Fawad Aman, deputy spokesman for the ministry blamed the insurgents for disregarding the peace process by keeping the level of violence high continuing attacks on the Afghan people and security forces.
