KABUL (Pajhwok): A senior Afghan journalist has been laid to rest following her demise in the Maryland State of the Unites States.
Spozhmai Maiwandi, former head of VOA’s South and Central Asia Division, died at the age of 68. However, the cause of her death was not immediately known.
Leaving behind a son and a daughter, she was laid to rest on Saturday after a prolonged illness in the US State of Maryland, where she lived.
Maiwandi started working for the Voice of America (VOA) Afghanistan Service as a broadcast journalist in 1982, during the Soviet occupation of Afghanistan.
She had played a key role in establishing VOA’s Deewa Radio for Pakistan and the Ashna TV for Afghanistan.
