Pakistan hopeful of hosting Afghan team

PESHAWAR (Pajhwok): Pakistan is optimistic about hosting the Afghan cricket squad following an invitation from Prime Minister Imran Khan.

Last week, Khan visited Kabul for talks with President Ashraf Ghani and other Afghan leaders. He also invited the Afghan team to visit his country.

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chief Executive Wasim Khan told journalists in Lahore the prime ministerial invitation would evoke a positive response.

He indicated talks between the PCB and the Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) on firming the visit schedule would be initiated soon.

“The two boards will work together to open a window in this regard and every effort will be made to make the series possible,” the official said.

Qasim Khan explained next year was going to be busy for Pakistan, which would try to open a window for Afghanistan in 2022.

Pakistan has been supportive of the Afghan cricket team right from the word go, with Rashid Latif and Inzamamul Haq having trained the Afghans.
