MAZAR-I-SHARIF (Pajhwok): Four civilians were killed and five others wounded after they resisted unknown gunmen who attempted to seize their livestock in northern Balkh province, sources said on Monday.
Sufi Bahruddin, a tribal elder, told Pajhwok Afghan News the unidentified gunmen wanted to take away people’s belongings and a herd of sheep on Sunday.
He said the people resisted the move and the gunmen opened fire at them, causing causalities.
He added the gunmen left the area as a result of the clash and were unable to seize people’s belongings.
The Shaheen Corps in a statement claimed that the gunmen were Taliban insurgents.
The statement said the Taliban wanted to take away livestock of people who offered resistance.
The statement claimed the Taliban opened fire on the civilians and also detonated a landmine that killed four civilians killed and injured five others.
The Taliban have not yet commented regarding the Shaheen Corps’ claim.
