3,100 artefacts recovered at Logar’s Ayinak area

PUL-I-ALAM (Pajhwok): Officials of the Culture and Information Department of central Logar province say 3,100 artefacts have been found at the Aynak area this year, with some making their way to the National Museum.

In an exclusive interview with Pajhwok Afghan News, Abdul Rahman Tassal, director culture and information, said diggings to recover more artefacts in Aynak area were underway since the past nine years with financial and technical assistance from UNESCO.

"Apart from the technical and professional engineers of archaeology, 336 people are engaged in excavations in the area and it will continue until all the historical artefacts are found under these hills," he added.

He said 3,100 relics had been recovered from the area in the past one year alone, some of which were handed over to the National Museum and others to the Logar Museum.

According to him, the artefacts include statues, pottery, copper, plaster, silver and other items.

He said that due to natural disasters and the passage of time, many historical monuments has severely damaged and repairs were being carried out by professionals in the area.

According to him, another museum is planned to be set up in the Ashab Baba town of Mohammad Agha district to preserve relics.

On the other hand, Logar provincial council chairman HaseebullahStanikzai told Pajhwok Afghan News excavations in the Aynak area were slow-paced.
