Differently-able persons seek role in peace bid

KABUL (Pajhwok): The Afghanistan Independent Human Rights Commission (AIHRC) says 4.4 million people who are differently able want participation in the peace talks.

The rights body said 4475800 people or 13.9 percent of the total population of Afghanistan are disabled. The AIHRC conducted a survey among disabled person in 22 provinces of the country, in which 1,504 persons took part. They included 79.3 percent men and the remaining women.

AIHRC Commissioner BenafshaYaqubi said the reason behind disability of these people was conflict, traffic accidents and escaping vaccinations.

She said among the surveyed disabled persons 435 had access to education and the remaining had been deprived of an education.

She added 1,224 of the total surveyed disabled persons had access to health services and the remaining had not.

According to Yaqoubi, last year 156 disabled persons registered their human rights violation cases with AIHRC.

She said that the disabled persons were real victims of the ongoing war in the country and they should be offered full participation in the peace process.

It is pertinent to mention that Afghanistan is witnessing conflict over the past four decades due to which people have been killed, some injured while others lost their body parts.
