KABUL (Pajhwok): National Directorate of Security (NDS) on Wednesday said many insurgents affiliated with Daesh or Islamic State (IS) and Taliban have been killed in an operation in Sabari district of Khost province, while the Taliban claim those killed were civilian including children.

A statement from NDS received by Pajhwok Afghan News said that special units of the intelligence agency launched a series of operations based on detective information and repeated demands of residents of Sabari, Zazai Maidan and Baak districts of Khost province for fighting against Haqqani Network and Taliban rebels who were harassing local people.

These operations launched in Maktab Bazaar, Zambar, Mirshah China and Tawda Kali areas which inflicted heavy casualties to Haqqani and Taliban insurgents and huge amount of ammunition and weapons seized, the source said.

The source said that Taliban and Haqqani insurgents forced a mother and her child to transfer and plant a bomb on a road used by Afghan security forces for transporting in Zambar Clinic area, but the bomb was exploded and killed both the mother and her child.

NDS said that Afghan forces killed 17 key Haqqani members including Sabil Hamidi, a commander of the group during a targeted operation in the area.

Haqqani Network suffered unprecedented loss during the operation, therefore the group spread propagandas by publishing images of dead children to hide their defeat, the source said.

Local officials earlier had said that eight people were killed and nine others wounded during the operation, but they did not provide details about the identities of the dead.

Daesh did not comment so far about the incident, but the Taliban claimed that civilians including children were killed in the operation.
