KABUL (Pajhwok): The husband of Queen Elizabeth, Prince Philip, has died at the age of 99, Buckingham Palace has announced.
In a statement from the palace, the Queen voiced her “deep sorrow” following the prince’s death at Windsor Castle on Friday morning.
“It is with deep sorrow that Her Majesty the Queen announces the death of her beloved husband,” the statement added.
Speaking at Downing Street, the British prime minister said the duke had “earned the affection of generations here in the United Kingdom, across the Commonwealth, and around the world”.
Meanwhile, President Ashraf Ghani, HCNR Chairman Dr. Abdullah, ex-president Hamid Karzai and other Afghan officials extended condolences on the death of Prince Philip.
The Prince of Wales travelled from his home in Gloucestershire to visit his mother at Windsor Castle on Friday afternoon.
