03 unit to be equipped further: NSA Mohib

KANDAHAR CITY (Pajhwok): National Security Advisor (NSA) Hamdullah Mohib traveled to southern Kandahar province where he met the personnel of 03 unit.

The meeting was held at the headquarters of the unit on Monday and was attended by Mohib, chief of National Directorate of Security Ahmad Zia Siraj, commander of 03 unit Mohammad Iqbal and personnel of the unit.

According to a statement issued by the unit, the officials praised the actions of the unit against insurgents and promised to further equip the unit.

A source in the 03 unit told Pajhwok the unit was able to thwart militants' plans in Kandahar and inflict heavy casualties on them.

According to the source, the unit will be further equipped to curb militant activities.

Mohib and Siraj are visiting Kandahar at a time when security forces have stepped up operations in Zherai and Panjwai districts after clearing Arghandab.

However, the Taliban have also stepped up their attacks in Maiwand and Zherai districts.
