TIRINKOT (Pajhwok): A car bombing hit a base of the Afghan National Army (ANA) in the Chora district of central Uruzgan province.
A military officer in the district, wishing to go unnamed, told Pajhwok Afghan News the gun and bomb took place on Sunday night.
He said the militants crashed an explosives-packed vehicle into the base at around 11pm, killing 10 soldiers, including a commander, and wounding 16 others.
He said more than a dozen police personnel also suffered casualties in the ensuing clash. Forty-five other security personnel have since been missing -- they are presumed dead.
The officer, speaking to Pajhwok from a public call office, complained that they had not yet received any support either from Tirinkot or Kabul.
He warned of the district’s fall to the insurgents if reinforcements did not reach Chora soon.
The provincial police headquarters did not respond to Pajhwok’s calls for comments on the overnight attack.
Meanwhile, the Taliban claimed attacking the district and killing many security personnel. They also claimed seizing military equipment.
