KABUL (Pajhwok): The Wolesi Jirga would hold one general session in a week instead of two on every Monday in order to prevent spread of coronavirus.
The Wolesi Jirga or lower house of parliament used to hold two general sessions a week on Mondays and Wednesdays.
Mir Rahman Rahmani, Wolesi Jirga speaker, said in today’s session that based on the proposal of the Ministry of Public Health and health commission of the house the lower house should make a decision about the general sessions because they could cause the virus to spread.
Some lawmakers endorsed the proposal, but a number of others stressed that the general sessions should continue twice a week.
Subsequently, Rahmani put the proposal to voting and the majority of lawmakers decided that the commissions meetings would be held on Sundays and general sessions on Mondays.
According to MoPH, since the outbreak of the virus, at least 94,000 people have been infected with the disease, 3,700 died and more than 62,000 recovered from the virus in Afghanistan.
