Oxygen producing plant resumes operation in Helmand

LASHKARGAH (Pajhwok): An oxygen factory has resumes producing oxygen for Covid-19 patients in southern Helmand province, officials said on Thursday.

Head of Covid-19 hospital in Helmand, Nasratullah Safari told Pajhwok Afghan News earlier an oxygen factory had been operating in the southern province but it was shut down due to some problems.

He said engineers of the Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) visited the factory and made it operational.

Safari added the factory would fill oxygen in cylinders and take them to hospitals.

He assured that Helmand would not face lack of oxygen but they had to be ready for emergency as sometimes it was difficult to transport oxygen cylinders for southern Kandahar province due to security problems.

A doctor at Helmand Covid-19 hospital, Ma’aazullahZahid told Pajhwok Afghan News oxygen was very important for Covid-19 patients, adding many patients succumb to the virus due to lack of oxygen.

The factory resumes work at a time when the whole country is faced with lack of oxygen for Covid-19 patients.

A few days back, acting Minister of Public health, WahidullahMajroh assured the Wolesi Jirga that the oxygen problem of the country would be addressed soon.

Helmand has so far registered 1,386 covid-19 positive cases, 838 recoveries and 71 deaths.
