KABUL (Pajhwok): NATO Senior Civilian Representative Stefano Pontecorvo has pledged the alliance’s continued support to Afghan security forces and said Afghan security forces will be provided more than $320 million for their capacity building this year.
During a meeting with Acting Defence Minister Bismillah Mohammadi, Pontecorvo hailed Afghan security forces and said their determination made the international community hopeful.
Defence minister Mohammadi hailed NATO cooperation and support to Afghan forces and termed it vital for the capacity building of Afghan forces.
He said the international community and particularly NATO’s support in training Afghan forces played a key role in the overall performance of Afghan forces.
Mohammadi said that Afghan Defense and Security Forces were ready to defend their country independently and try to protect the lives and property of their compatriots and will not allow the Taliban to impose an illegitimate regime on the people again through war and bloodshed
He noted that the only solution to the current crisis in Afghanistan was peace talks, and the Taliban must abide by these talks.
