India pledges 150,000 tonnes wheat to Afghanistan

India pledges 150,000 tonnes wheat to Afghanistan

KABUL (Pajhwok): India will provide 150,000 tonnes of wheat to Afghanistan as part of its humanitarian assistance, a statement from Presidential Palace said on Thursday.

Indian Foreign Minister J Shankar made the pledged for wheat support during a meeting with President Ashraf Ghani in Tashkent on the sideline of Central, South Asia Connectivity Conference.

Renewing New Dehli support to Afghanistan, Indian foreign minister pledged humanitarian assistance of 150,000 tonnes of wheat to Afghanistan.

He said India will continue developing regional consensuses for political system in Afghanistan.

Ghani termed, India a cordial friend of Afghanistan and thanked them for its support to Afghanistan over the years.

Separately President Ghani met a US delegation headed by Elizabeth Sherwood-Randall, US homeland security advisor, and discussed matters related the support of Afghan security forces, development and humanitarian assistance and US pledges to accelerate peace process.

The US delegation assured president Ghani of implementing the pledges made with Afghan government one after another.
