HERAT CITY (Pajhwok): The commander of the First Brigade of 207th Zafar Corps in western Herat province has been killed after being captured by Taliban militants, the governor said on Saturday.
Governor Abdul Sabur Qani told Pajhwok Afghan News that Col. Abdul Hamid Hamidi, commander of the First Brigade of the 207th Zafar Corps, was captured by the Taliban in Pul-e-Malan area and then killed him on Friday.
The Taliban also confirmed the killing of the commander.
Qari Yusuf Ahmadi, the group’s spokesman, said that Colonel Abdul Hamidi was killed in a Taliban attack.
It is noteworthy that the Taliban have seized several districts in Herat province so far and fighting has been going on in districts near Herat city between the Taliban and security forces.
