KANDAHAR (Pajhwok): A doctor, who was shot injured by gunmen a few days ago in southern Kandahar province, died at the Mirwais regional hospital on Saturday.
Dr. Mohammad DaudFarhad, director of Mirwais Regional Hospital, told Pajhwok Afghan News that doctor Wali Mohammad had been working in the hospital for the past eight years.
He said that the doctor was shot by unidentified gunmen on his way home three days ago in the Sarpoza area of 7th police district.
Sarpoza is one of the most insecure areas in Kandahar City where insurgents have been battling security forces for the past one month.
Farhad said the doctor was in a critical condition in Mirwais Hospital where he died of his injuries on Saturday morning.
According to him, the doctor, who was shot in the chest and abdomen, underwent four surgeries but did not survive.
He said the incident had left doctors at the Mirwais Regional Hospital worried about their safety.
The family of the slain doctor said they had no enmitywith anyone and they did not know who attacked him.
Security officials and the armed Taliban have not yet commented in this regard.
