KABUL (Pajhwok): Second vice president Sarwar Danish said on Thursday that the current situation in the country was similar to what happened on the day of Ashura centuries ago as the Taliban were trying to achieve their goal through assassinations, terror and tyranny instead of negotiations.
A presidential statement, a copy of which is available with Pajhwok Afghan News, said that President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani in a meeting with the Ashura Security Commission emphasized on the need to ensure security on the day of Ashura.
According to the statement, the deputy head of the Ashura Security Coordination Commission and members of the Council of Shiite Scholars assured full coordination with the security and defense forces and the people to ensure the security of the Ashura ceremony.
Danish, the second vice president, said that the current situation in the country was similar to that of Ashura, and that the Taliban were trying to achieve their goal through assassination, terror and tyranny instead of negotiations.
He said the Shiite community of Afghanistan stood by the security and defense forces in order to protect the system and the republic, and the movement that has risen up against the Taliban was expanding like Ashura in terms of solidarity and uprisings.
President Ghani said in the statement that Imam Hussein’s (RWA) message was the message of freedom. “And we are on the move, and we will never surrender to the army of ignorance and terror.”
He said the Afghans were facing a major onslaught and today was the day of resistance, unity and national solidarity to stand against it
The president expressed his gratitude for the cohesion and coordination of the people to ensure the security of the Ashura ceremony, and issued necessary instructions to officials of the security organs to ensure ecurity of the said ceremony.
