KABUL (Pajhwok): Special envoy of Qatar, Iranian ambassador and Chinese representatives have discussed with Taliban officials, former president, Hamid Karzai, Dr. Abdullah Abdullah and Gulbuddin Hekmatyar about finding a solution to the Afghanistan crisis.
Karzai in a tweet today said that he and Abdullah met with Qatar’s special representative for Afghanistan, Mutlaq Ben Majid Al-Qahtani in Kabul on Wednesday evening.
He said that they thanked Qatar for its efforts about the Afghan peace process and both sides stressed on political solution to the Afghan crisis.
The new government should represent the wills and demands of all Afghans and have international legitimacy so it would put end to current problems, he said.
On the other hand, Abdullah said that he and Karzai also met with Iranian envoy to Afghanistan and discussed the future Afghan government.
Feraidon Khwazon, spokesman of Abdullah said that the two sides discussed formation of a government that could represent the whole Afghans and gain international legitimacy.
An official of Hizb-i-Islami Afghanistan (HIA), who wished to go unnamed, said that Qatar’s special representative for Afghanistan, Mutlaq Ben Majid Al-Qahtani and Qatari representative for Afghanistan, Sayeed Bin Mubarak also met with HIA leader, Gulbuddin Hekmatyar.
He said that Qatari envoys encourage Taliban to negotiate establishment of future government in Qatar but the Taliban wants to discuss it in Kabul.
The official said that HIA also supported discussions in Kabul but there was need for the support of assistant countries and political leaders.
Deputy Taliban spokesman, Ahmadullah Wasiq said that Al-Qahtani also met with Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar. He said that it was normal meeting similar like with ambassadors of other countries.
He said that they also met with Chinese envoy on Tuesday and the recent meetings were for strengthening bilateral relations with countries.
Wasiq said that no decision was so far made whether talks about future government would be held in Qatar because all members of Taliban’s Qatar office were currently in Afghanistan.
