MAZAR-I-SHARIF (Pajhwok): Information and culture officials on Sunday said that efforts were started to protect historical sites of northern Balkh province.
Balkh information and culture director, Mulavi Zabihullah Noori told Pajhwok Afghan News that they also stopped arbitrarily excavation of historical sites which was going on during former regime.
He said that he visited all historical areas in Balkh province, including those in districts of the province.
Practical steps for the protection of historical sites which are under serious threat of destruction have been launched, he said.
“We visited all historical monuments and sites of Balkh, special personnel have been tasked for their protection and no one would be allowed for arbitrary actions,” he said.
He warned those of destroying historical sites and said that anyone attempted excavation of the sites would face serious reaction.
Historical monuments and sites are national assets and it is the responsibility of all Afghans to take care for their protection, he added.
Noori said that there was fully security in the province and people could safely travel from one to another part, which he added would facilitate safe trips for foreign tourists to visit historical sites of Balkh.
He promised to promote cultural activities in the province.
