Taliban hails Doha Accord leading to foreign forces pull out

KABUL (Pajhwok): US invasion of Afghanistan in 2001resulted in countless losses in blood and money for the American people, caused mass displacement, casualties to common people, the Taliban said in a statement on Thursday.

October 7 marks the 20th anniversary of US forces invasion of Afghanistan. After 20 years the Taliban are back in power and recently a top US general termed Afghan conflict a US failure.

“US decision to pull out its troops from Afghanistan after Doha agreement is a positive step. It should give a clear message to other nations that invading Afghanistan will have catastrophic affects and no nation should think about military invasion of Afghanistan,” the statement said.

The Taliban statement asked UN and other aid providing agencies not to link their assistance to political pressure and provide support to Afghanistan to end existing issues.

According to reports in the past 20 years of fighting, 2,448 US forces, 3,846 US contractors, 1,144 NATO members, 66,000 Afghans military personnel, over 51,000 Afghan civilians, 72 were killed and thousands others wounded. Exact figures about the Taliban casualties have not released so far.
