KABUL (Pajhwok): Some teachers in capital Kabul staged protest on Thursday asking the government to pay their salaries.
Tens of teachers gathered in the Shaheed Abdul Rahim High School in the Chardahahi locality of Kabul said they stopped teaching from the past two days due to delay in their salary payment.
Fatana Bayat, one of the teachers, said: “Today we have gathered here to participate in this protest gathering and demand the issuance of our two to three months salaries.”
She said school teachers have been facing huge problems, the government should at least pay their salaries if it could not provide other assistance.
She added people are on the eve winter and if teachers are not provided with their salaries they could face several problems.
Ali Nazari, another teacher of Shaheed Abdul Rahim School, said with the recent changes in the country people are facing acute economic problems.
“Surge in the prices of essential items, arrival of winter season, delay in the issuance of salaries teachers and other government employees and other problems have contributed to public worries,” said Nazari.
He asked the government to pay teachers’ salaries as soon as possible.
