KABUL (Pajhwok): New director of Afghanistan Academy of Sciences, Mualvi Fariduddin Mahmood, on Sunday formally assumed charge.
In this regard, deputy head of Afghanistan Affairs department Norul Haq Anwar read out a decree about the appointment of Mahmood as director of the Academy of Science during a ceremony here.
Anwar said the caretaker government understood the importance of the Academy of Sciences and therefore appointed academician Mahmood as its head.
He said a new phase had begun in the country and an Islamic government had been established and efforts were needed to improve the country’s political, economic, culture and academic affairs.
Outgoing Academy of Sciences director Dr. Abdul Zahir Shakeb on the occasion thanked the government for appointing Mahmood as head of the academy keeping in view his experience, knowledge and eligibility.
