KANDAHAR CITY (Pajhwok): At least three Daesh affiliates were killed and eight others were detained during an operation in southern Kandahar province on Monday, an official said.

Two civilians were also killed during the operation that took place in Haji Arab and Al-Makkah Plaza areas of Kandahar city, the provincial capital.

Kandahar police spokesman Mohammad Asif Hakimi told Pajhwok Afghan News the Taliban raided a hideout of ISIS militants in Kandahar city, killing three militants.

He added that two civilians were also killed during the operation, but the Taliban suffered no casualties. He did not elaborate.

Shams Samim, spokesman for the Kandahar Information and Culture Department, told Pajhwok Afghan News four ISIS militants were killed and eight others were detained during the operation.

Kandahar security officials were scheduled to brief a news conference this afternoon, but canceled it.

Meanwhile, Ahmadullah Wasiq, deputy head of the cultural commission in Kabul, said that three ISIS militants were killed and their hideout was destroyed in the area of ​​Sayedal Hospital in the fourth security district of Kandahar city.

He added that two civilians were also killed in the operation but the Taliban were not harmed.

Mahmood, a resident of Deh Khwaja area of ​​Kandahar City, told Pajhwok Afghan News he heard gunshots in the area but did not know what had happened. He added that in addition to the shootings, the Taliban had also closed the roads.

Similarly, Ahmad, a resident of 15th security district of Kandahar city, said that there was fighting for more than an hour in this area last night.

Apart from the attack on a Shiite mosque in Kandahar, ISIS activities have not been seen before, but the current clashes have worried people.

Residents of Kandahar say the Taliban must take adequate measures against ISIS and take the threat seriously.

They say that if ISIS is not stopped in time, it could become a major threat in the future and cause serious harm to civilians.
