ASADABAD (Pajhwok): A three-day polio vaccination campaign was launched in eastern Kunar province on Tuesday, targeting 192,000 children including 41,000 children left out in the previous campaigns, an official said.
The mosque-to-mosque vaccination campaign would be implemented across the province, provincial Public Health official Mohammad Ishaq told Pajhwok Afghan News. He said 173000 children would be given vitamin E tablets as well.
He said 41,000 children who could not be vaccinated due to the conflict and other problems would also be given polio vaccine drops during the campaign. The deprived children were in Manogi, Chapa Dara, Watapur, Sarkano, Shaltan, Dangam, Narang, Sawki , Marawara and Nurgul districts.
Kunar public health director Muzaffar said meetings were held with people from various sections of the society to better implement the polio vaccination campaign.
He said polio workers faced no security problems and they could confidently vaccinate children in all parts of the province.
So this year three positive polio cases have surfaced in the country, two in Kunduz and one in Ghazni province.
