FAIZABAD (Pajhwok): Money changers in northeastern Badakhshan province have been struggling with withdrawal of enough money from banks to provide it to their customers.
Money Changers Union (MCU) Head Mohammad TahirAzami told Pajhwok Afghan News that curbs on the banking system had affected their business and if these restrictions were not lifted, people will lose trust in banks.
“You can see the banking system is deteriorating in the country, they are running out of cash and could not provide money to their clients. Banks have to transfer cash through manual methods, which itself is a dangerous and difficult task.”
If restrictions on the banking system are not removed, money exchangers and other people will lose their trust in banks.
Abdul BasirWaseeq, a resident of Badakhshan province, said depositing money in banks was vital, but due to restrictions people no more trusted them.
“We don’t know where to store our cash, if we keep it in house, robbers may attack and steal them.”
He added banks could not be trusted as well due to curbs on their activities and no one could easily withdraw their money from the bank.
