KUNDUZ CITY (Pajhwok): A number of cooking oil factory owners in northern Kunduz province say that their business has improved during the last few months when the prices of imported cooking oil jumped.
Flaxseed oil, sesame and cottonseed oil are products produced by using domestic and foreign raw materials in Kunduz.
Traders say using domestic products help improve the country’s economy besides their quality is better than imported goods.
Haji Mohammad Mullah, owner of an oil factory in Kunduz, said that high prices of imported oil were the reason most people were interested in buying domestic products.
He said that their business improved recently but they were unable to purchase raw materials due to restrictions on banks.
He asked the government to support domestic products and provide more facilities for traders. “We have good products, but we cannot access our money due to blockade of banks. It is a serious problem, we ask the government to resolve this problem,” he said.
Mohammad Hassan, owner of another oil factory in Kunduz, was also happy about his business but said that they were at trouble importing raw materials from abroad.
“We currently produce oil from cottonseed, but flaxseed is rare in the country and that is the reason we import it from abroad,” he said, adding that the government should help traders in releasing their money so they would import raw materials from foreign countries.
Kunduz residents also praised the quality of domestic oil products and asked people to purchase local products.
Sifatullah, a resident of the province says, “Domestic products have good quality and using them would improve our economy because our money will not go out of our country, we do not know the nature of foreign oils which are imported to our country, we ask people to use domestic products.”
In Kunduz, domestic oil is produced both traditionally and in modern methods. Kunduz oil has low market due to inexpensive imported oils.
