LASHKARGAH (Pajhwok): After a delay lasting five months, the distribution of electronic ID cards resumed in southern Helmand province on Sunday.
The process began with Helmand Governor Maulvi Abdul Ahad Talib filling out his form.
The governor told Pajhwok Afghan News that the distribution of electronic ID cards would officially begin today after the appointment of a new director for the Department of Statistics and Information.
He called on all Helmand residents, men and women, to come to the electronic ID centers and get their IDs. He informed that soon electronic ID cards centers will be opened in districts besides Lashkar Gah.
Hafiz Mohammad Rabbani, director of statistics and information in Helmand, told Pajhwok Afghan News that the distribution of electronic ID cards would continue as before.
He added that two more electronic ID cards centers would be opened in Lashkar Gah in the coming days.
Helmand residents are happy that the distribution of electronic ID cards has resumed after a delay of several months.
Gul Mohammad, a resident of Lashkar Gah, told Pajhwok Afghan News that the government should not only open electronic ID card centers, but also speed up the process so that people could get their ID cards easily without any hassle.
It is to be mentioned that more than 500 people come to the center every day to get electronic ID cards, out of which 250 people go through the work process.
The National Bureau of Statistics has announced that it has distributed around 340,000 electronic IDs in different parts of the country in the last four months.
