BAMYAN CITY (Pajhwok): Local officials on Monday said that Ghor-Daikundi and Daikundi-Kabul highways had been shut for traffic as a result of heavy snowfall.

At least one person was killed while two others were injured when a fuel tanker veered off the road on the Bamyan-Kabul highway.

Saif Rahman Mohammadi, director of information for Bamyan, said the Ghor-Bamyan and Daikundi-Bamyan highways in Chateau area had been closed since last night due to heavy snowfall.

He said roads in Waras and Punjab districts of Bamyan had also been blocked in the wake of the snowfall.

A statement from the Public Works Department said the Shatu Pass, roads in Punjab district, Abqul Kerman, Pulband Shui areas, Waras district, Kutal-i-Aqrqabat and Kutal-i-Hajigag had been closed.

Efforts were underway to reopen all these routes, but storms and heavy snowfall had made it difficult to reopen them soon, the statement added.

Meanwhile, a fuel tanker veered off the road on the Bamyan-Kabul highway in the Paymuri village of Shibar district on Sunday evening, killing one person and injuring two others.

Sher Alam Pik, a resident of Paymouri village, said the incident occurred due to the presence of snow on the road.

A statement from the Meteorological Department on Sunday forecast heavy snow and rain on January 3 and 4 in 32 provinces of the country.
